Vasco and the Explorers - Stellenbosch
REGION: Stellenbosch, South Africa
VARIETIES: Touriga National
For over three months Vasco da Gama and his crew sailed for more than 10,000 kilometres before they successfully made landfall on the African coast in 1497. It was from here that they headed east to the Orient to establish the crucial spice trade routes. It wasn’t de Gama’s desire to colonise Africa, but this wine is a nod towards what the predominant grapes from South Africa might have been had he decided to do so. This is the port grape, and is wonderfully fruity and perfumed.
