REGION: Costieres-de-Nimes, Rhone
VARIETIES: Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah
Michel Gassier is a really interesting story, and we are delighted to have found him. A family-owned and run Chateau right at the very southern end of the Rhone valley, near the Camargue wetlands. Having spent time in the US, Michel clearly understands his wines’ point of difference, and makes the most of these using clever references to the region. The Lou Coucardié is remarkable - rich, full and savoury (full of that classic Mourvedre style), yet retaining the typical Gassier freshness. Looking for a cross between Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Bandol, for a fraction of the cost of either?
