REGION: Val d'Aoste, Italy
VARIETIES: Petite Arvine
High up in the foothills of the Italian Alps, this cooperative of 25 members farms lots of small, fragmented plots on steep slopes using typically Alpine varietals: Petite Arvine, Gamay, Fumin. Due to the unique microclimate (hot and relatively dry) very little pest control is needed, and harvesting during the cool nights keeps a wonderful freshness to all their wines. Really well-made.
