REGION: Walker Bay, South Africa
VARIETIES: Pinot Noir
VITICULTURE: Conventional
YEAR: 2021
ALCOHOL: 13%
INFO: Low-vigour, stony, clay-rich soil, cool maritime mesoclimate, naturally tiny yields of well under 35 hl/ha and a philosophy of expressing terroir in their wines give rise to a certain tightness, tannin line and elevated length to balance the richness and generosity of the Pinot Noir.
After fermentation the wine is aged for a period of 10 months in 100% 228 litre French Oak Barrels (35% first fill, 47% second fill and 18% third fill) where is also undergoes malolactic fermentation.
It's not overtly fruity, soft and "sweet" and it generally shows hints of that alluring savoury "primal" character along with a dark, spicy, complex primary fruit perfume.
