REGION: Manchuela, Spain
As with much of Spain, this relatively new region of Manchuela is undergoing a bit of a resurgence as higher altitudes and better winemaking practices are sought. Bobal, also known as the "Carignan of Spain", was once the true workhorse of this area, producing huge quantities of fairly anodyne grapes for bulk wine production. As with much in agriculture, though, treat it with care, and it produces something really quite different. Organic, sustainable and biodynamic principles run through the very essence of this mid-sized Bodegas - indeed intervention is about as minimal as can be, with wild yeasts, no filtration and no fining leaving a vibrant imprint on this wine.
